So I'm cute; Wanna Fight About it?

Apparently, I am posting in twos these days. Maybe it's because I am trying to make the most of my time while Ryan reads to a happy baby (see post below).

It's every mom's daunting task to catch their baby smiling. And I have spent my fair share of time waiting to snap that moment. Finally .... here it is:

This Week in Pictures

The weather was perfect today and apparently even Jonah didn't want to waste the day inside. Each time I took a minute to work, he was quick on the trigger to make sure I got nothing done. So I listened to his cues and we headed out to the Botanical Gardens for some free, outdoor entertainment.

Alright Mom, let's do this!

And, I'm spent.

When Ryan gets home, it's boy time. Even though Jonah can't read, or even understand much, Ryan reads to him every night. Jonah likes to lay on his back and listen to his dad. Right now he's reading through the children's books we have but I'm scared I'll come home and find him reading school textbooks and threatening to throw a pop quiz. What ever he can do to get him ahead in school....abc's by 1....states and their capitals by 2.....all of the muscles of the arm with origin/insertion and nerve innervation by 3.....so on and so forth. If that doesn't work out we'll be hitting the weight room and seeing if a rowing or lacrosse scholarship can get him into Harvard.

And so the lessons begin.

This was a quiz over the pookie shimmy.

Oh, to catch a smile!

I know; two posts in one day! What am I thinking? Between trying make up for my lack of posting and a rainy weekend, there was plenty to share.

Jonah is giving us the real deal - he smiles! It use to be, he'd smile at the ceiling, or when he was sleeping, but within the last few weeks, he now looks you in the eyes and smiles. It will melt your heart! Now, don't get excited, this video was a (first) attempt to capture the smile. While, you don't see a full-fledged smile, you allllmost see it. Jonah loves his dad (who wouldn't, he's the funniest guy I know) and will usually give it up for him. Here's Ryan's attempt to allow me to catch it on video. It's pretty cute either way!

Father and Son Traditions in the Making

Ryan had bigs plans for him and his son to begin a Husker football tradition of watching the game and wings. The boys were suited up in their Husker gear (Jonah's was a little big!) and snuggled up on the couch for a raining day of football. Then panic ensued. No, not Jonah .... As Ryan frantically flipped through the channels, we realized that the Nebraska game was not being shown here in Alabama - instead they were showing the Arizona v. Iowa game (WHAT!) We ended up "watching" the game on the internet which includes 1 sentence updates that are about 3 minutes delayed. Nonetheless, we had a fun, family-filled Saturday of football (say that 5 times fast!) I see a Husker fan in the making .... Like he ever had a choice!

Go 'Skers!

Somehow I forgot to post these precious pictures from the photo shoot Jonah did with Becky. They turned out great. Enjoy!

This one is for the Grandmas!

WARNING! This is only for those of you who like posts with babies doing nothing and chicken legs!

Jonah's mad head control!

La-ing, hoots and chicken legs!

One Month Stats

As far as Dr. Levin is concerned, Jonah is happy, healthy and "beautiful"!

Weight: 9 lbs, 9 ounces
Length: 22 inches

Ryan and I got a true taste of parenthood as we stood by helplessly watching Jonah get his shots. I didn't know he could cry like that, being such a happy baby normally. I had to fight back my tears and let Ryan swoop him up immediately to comfort him.

Sleeping off his tough day! I just thought his Polo outfit was pretty pimp!

Battle wounds!

Jonah at one month

Wow, where has one month gone! In some ways, it feels like just yesterday we were sitting around awaiting his arrival, and on the other hand, it's hard to imagine our lives without him!

Tomorrow is his one-month appointment, so official stats will have to wait until then. At one month, Jonah has given us a couple of (possibly) genuine smiles, he coos, squeaks and hoots frequently, and has crazy head control. Ryan is really getting a handle on this whole "Dad" thing and is no longer convinced that Jonah "doesn't like him!" He now has the ability to get him to quit crying and can hold his attention forever just reading from his PT textbooks or telling him a story.

Official stats tomorrow, but in the meantime, enjoy the newest picture of our precious boy!

Jonah's Baptism and other sleepy moments

This weekend (almost) the whole family on both sides were in town to celebrate Jonah's baptism and meet our little man. The week started last Sunday when Grandma Babl came in for the week. Jonah was held for at least a week straight with his grandma here, allowing me to get lots done, including rest. Friday, Becky, Kylan and the boys drove in, Papa Babl flew in and Grandma Ro Ro and uncle Mikey drove over. With a full house, we had a great time being entertained by our three boys.

Sunday, we all got cleaned up for church, where Jonah decided he was not going to sit quietly through the sermon! After mass, Jonah was baptized by Father Bob and did fairly well. He was not feeling the cold water on his head! Thanks Becky and Kylan for being there for Jonah (and us) as his God parents. We had a great time with everyone and miss you all already!

Yesterday afternoon, I caught Jonah sleeping in the most beautiful light coming in through the window. I just thought I would share the precious photos. Lots more photos from the weekend to come once Becky gets them finished - no pressure!
