Week One Stats

Hanging with dad! No, those are not my legs ... I have shaved since becoming a mom!

Yesterday Jonah had his one week check up. All is well and he seems to be doing great. The nurses mentioned several times he is a "perfect looking baby". While we agree, we are a bit biased. He weighed in at 8lbs 3 ozs almost gaining back all his weight loss.

Jonah's likes and dislikes at one week:

Likes:
Bed and Breakfast Eating
Being held
His swing
Stretching his long limbs
Car rides
Sleeping for 3-4 hour stretches

Dislikes:
Cold hands
Being changed
Wet dog noses on his feet

Jonah Paul Babl has Arrived!

Jonah arrived Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 9:29 am. He weighed in at a surprising 8 lbs 8 oz and was 20 in long.

His dramatic arrival began Monday night when Ryan and I had a false alarm visit to labor and delivery (I swore I would never be “that” person!). After thinking my water broke and fairly steady contractions, we went to L & D around 5pm. After about an hour, they sent us home, but my mom had already started her trip over, and thank goodness she did cause things picked up from there.

About midnight Tuesday I woke with very strong, painful contractions. They continue for another 3-4 hours before I woke Ryan up. I was so determined to not get kicked out of L & D again; I was going to be darn sure my labor had started before making the trip.

That was a mistake! After waking my mom at 4am, I was in severe pain and knew things were happening. After checking me in at the evaluation unit, I was told I was 9 centimeters. Yes, 9! I guess I was laboring after all. I was sent straight upstairs and immediately after reaching the room, I started pushing.

After three long hours and nearly giving up, Jonah finally made his appearance. He surprised everyone, including the doctors, by his big size. He was immediately alert and awake. Everyone is recovering well and we are quickly falling into our roll as parents. Ryan is already a worrisome, but doting dad. It’s great having Grandma RoRo here to help change diapers and snuggle. We are all completely smitten!

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing ....

It's Monday and still no baby! At least I can confidently say this WAS our last baby-free weekend. If he hasn't come by my Thursday appointment, they will induce. We are still hoping he will come on his own.

It's been no lack of excitement here the last few days. I'm still staying active, cleaning, walking and running errands, however, I am met with a serious case of Braxton Hicks each
night (apparently punishing me)!

I'm working from home today, trying to stay busy. It's been an anxiety-filled week and anyone that knows me, knows that I am neither patient, nor do I do well without a firm plan of action in place!

I've heard pineapple, eggplant Parmesan, spicy foods and walking backwards up a hill to start labor, but I think we've got a stubborn boy who is not ready to come out yet!

Ammendment to Full Moon post

Tonight is the full moon! There is still a chance.

Ryan and I are headed to our 40 Week appointment in about an hour. We'll keep everyone posted on progress.

Wish us luck!

There's a Full Moon Rising

Van Morrison once said "it's a marvelous night for a moondance." And seeing tonight is a full moon, that might be exactly what I am doing at 9pm.

Ok, I may not be outside dancing in the moonlight (another song lyric .. I'm on a roll!) but maybe, just maybe, those old wives' tales have some truth. What is true, is that hospitals over staff on full moons because women tend to experience false labor and also (supposedly) more women's water breaks on these nights.

Today, I have had an action-packed day of contractions and general "funkiness", so maybe I will be one of the many lucky ones storming labor and delivery tonight ready to give birth.

One way or another, things are progressing and sooner than later these posts will pictures and milestones of our boy rather than tributes to 1970's rock!

Happy 4 Years Tilly-Bean!

Just a few weeks after we got Tilly.

With her favorite "person" in the world! BFF Bones!

All grown up!

We have no idea when Tilly was born, but we know about how old she was we adopted her, which makes today “about” her birthday.

Four Labor Days ago, your “dad” got tipsy on a boat and told everyone we were getting a puppy. About 3 weeks later, we were smitten by your sad story and took you home! You were a wreck and taken straight out of the aftermath of Katrina – fleas, scrapes and scars, infected incision, skin diseases.

Today, you bark a little too much and sometimes your endless energy drains me, but you are the most loyal and loving dog a person could ask for. All you want is to snuggle up between the two of us – that’s when we are not throwing your rubber chicken for you!

I know you and little J will be best friends!

*And yes, this post is a little long and drawn out for a dog's birthday post, but it's occupying my brain so I am not thinking about how much I wish I would be going into labor ... so back off!
