I know, I know, all you avid Babl Babble readers have been deprived of the latest on Jonah's life. It's been a busy couple of weeks and I have severely neglected this blog. I promise to get my camera out soon and take something worth posting!

In the meantime, a little bit about our trip to Indy.
Two weekends ago, we drove up to Indy for a great weekend with the Stucks. The weather was great and it was so awesome to have those cousins together again. Jonah was in awe of his big cousin Hayden. Brody, on the other hand, would hoard his toys and run to momma in a panic saying "No Bab-bee!". We hit up the zoo, took a Man V. Food challenge and had lots of down time enjoying the gorgeous weather. Somehow in my packing, I left my good camera at home. I did take a few with my point-and-shoot, but Becky posted several great pictures you can check out.

In other news, Ryan started his last (ever) clinic today at an orthopedic clinic here in Birmingham. We are both so excited to be this close to finishing.

One Whole Year

It means I have to shop in the toddler section now! It's hard to believe this toddler use to be perfectly content sleeping on my chest for hours at a time. Now-a-days, it seems like I can hardly get a quick kiss in before he is scrambling out of my arms and on to his next big boy adventure.

Jonah is hysterically funny and loves making us laugh, he's happy-go-lucky, and a total mamma's boy. He still has yet to completely master walking, but gets around just fine on all fours or with the help of any two hands that will lead him around. His vocal skills have hit overdrive in the last few weeks and include: "hi", "bye", "mamma/ma", "dada/dad", "uh-oh" although not always in proper context, "this", "that", "all done", "dog" and sometimes "ball".

Jonah waves bye, dances anytime he hears music, gives kisses frequently - often to the dogs, claps, knows where his head is, how to brush his hair and where to put a hat. He often sleeps from 7:30 - 7:00 and has started to nap well at school (even on a cot) with the transition to UAB and the toddler room.

He loves playing with stacking cups, the broom, the dog's ball and crate and his light up chicken which he was previously afraid of. He still loves to swim and play in water, although baths are hit or miss depending on his fatigue levels.

His favorite foods tend to change with the weeks, but cheerios, chicken and bread remain steady. He switches out his ideal veggie, where it was once peas, this week it is carrots (but they go well together!). He is not a fan of fruit, which amazes Ryan and me both and pasta is hit or miss. We have slowly made the change to all sippy cups and Jonah has been a champ, leaving the bottles behind. Last weekend we introduced cow's milk for the first time and I continue to up the portions each day in his cup - I think sneaking it in is the key with him!

Weight: 19 lbs, 1 oz ....... 5th %
Height: 29.5 inches ....... 50th %
Head: 19 inches ............. 90th%

So we continue to follow the long skinny, big head trend. Speaking of head, he has more hair in person than the pictures show and it is sandy blonde and curly.

He looks pretty perfect to me.

Jonah, you are the happiest, smiliest, funniest kid I know. You make parenting so easy for Ryan and me. We are amazed daily at what an awesome kid you are. Thanks for going easy on us this first time around! We love you.

He gets it from his dad

Last night the three of us were in Jonah's room post bath when he decides to put the travel sized lotion bottle in his mouth, throw his hands in the air and turn towards his parents to gage our reaction. We both laughed, as usual, our little ham, always comedian, anything to get that reaction. Then he holds the lotion up to Ryan with a look of "your turn". Ryan puts it in his mouth and in an over dramatic fashion, he hits his stomach and makes the bottle go flying across the floor. I'm not sure if I have ever heard Jonah laugh so hard. He thought it was the funniest thing he had seen and over and over again he makes Ryan do it. He'd hand the bottle to him and say "this". Pretty soon we were all laughing to tears. I'm smiling right now just thinking about it. I realized a couple of things that night:

1) My son gets his dry sense of humor from his hysterical dad
2) These are the moments no one can ever prepare you for as a parent, the incredible moments where you realize you have something special
3) I really love my two guys

MMMM, cupcakes

I've had these pictures up and ready to post for a few days now, but better late than never!
After Ryan got home from work on Jonah's birthday, we skyped in the Babl family and had cupcakes. It took a solid 5 minutes for Jonah to warm up to the idea of eating the cupcake. He was however, pretty keen from the get-go on feeding Daddy the cupcake. What he wasn't too keen on .... wearing a party hat!

Birthday Day!

I took the day off on Wednesday for a fun day with my little guy and much fun was had! Our gift was a water table that Jonah hit up first thing that morning. No water, no problem. He had fun pushing the toys around and playing with the umbrella.

After a big breakfast, we met up with Wendi and Owen at the McWane Science Center for a great (indoor) time. On a side note, it has been SO unbearably hot here, we refrained from outdoor activities.

It took a solid 20 minutes for Jonah to warm up to the idea of exploring on his own.

When he did decide to stray from mom, he had a great time.

Not super sure what is going on here, but this picture is priceless!

This look kinda sums up the whole day once he loosened up. He was amazed at everything and kept gasping and laughing. I loved watching him explore his world.

You know a kid has had an exciting morning when you find this at the end of a mere 7 minute ride home.

Just one little year .... doesn't seem like much.

Wow, one year ago today, I sat at home on a Monday morning sitting, waiting, wishing for our little guy to make his appearance. In my mind, he was already as stubborn as his mamma, making us wait 4 long days past his due date. So many emotions running through Ryan and me, we had no idea what to expect.

What an adventure it has been and what an awesome little boy we have!
